NHS Federated Data Platform Programme Engagement Portal
The NHS uses data every day to manage patient care and plan services. Historically, it has been held in different systems that do not speak to each other creating extra burden for staff and patients. We know that better use of data brings big benefits for patients by ensuring more joined up care, greater choice, improved health outcomes and ultimately helping to save lives.
Between January – October 2023, NHS England has been undertaking a procurement process to buy software to sit across NHS trusts and regional systems allowing them to connect data they already hold in a secure and safe environment. The software will provide the NHS with a Federated Data Platform (FDP).
Each trust and ICB will have access to their own version of the data platform and be the data controller, giving them complete control over how their local data is used.
You can read more about the Federated Data Platform, and find the answers to frequently asked questions on NHS England’s website.
